Greetings to all our amazing fans, loyal customers, and fellow lovers of great food! At Island Pig and Fish, we’ve always prided ourselves on serving up the best BBQ and seafood on the Treasure Coast. But recently, we had the incredible honor of hosting something truly special—the inaugural attempt at our brand-new "Jerry Garcia" Menu Challenge. And who better to take on this epic feast than professional eater Randy Santel, who, alongside Katina Eats Kilos, made a stop at our restaurant before heading off to Europe for more culinary adventures.
We created the "Jerry Garcia" Menu Challenge as a tribute not only to great food but also to one of the most iconic musicians of all time, Jerry Garcia of the Grateful Dead. Jerry was known for his love of good food, and we designed this challenge to reflect the kinds of dishes we think he would have enjoyed.
The challenge features a robust selection of our finest offerings:
- 1/2 pound smoked beef brisket: Tender and full of smoky flavor.
- 1/2 pound burnt ends: Rich, savory, and melt-in-your-mouth goodness.
- Award-winning double cheeseburger with bacon jam
- Philly Shove Brisket Cheesesteak: Our BBQ twist on a classic.
- Bacon-Wrapped Scallop Sandwich: The perfect surf-and-turf combination.
- Fried Softshell Crab Sandwich: Crispy and packed with flavor.
- Southern Fried Chicken Sando: A comfort food favorite.
Challengers can also choose between one large side or two smaller ones—Randy went with our sweet chili cucumber salad and homemade baked beans with pork belly drippings. And while drinks and desserts aren’t part of the challenge, Randy couldn’t resist adding a cold beer and a slice of key lime pie to his meal, just to top it off.
The Challenge Day
The excitement was palpable as Randy Santel stepped up to the plate (literally) to take on our undefeated "Jerry Garcia" Menu Challenge. We’ve seen some big appetites in our time, but nothing quite like this. Randy dove into the platter with the focus and determination of a true professional, savoring each dish while keeping an eye on the clock.
The brisket was a crowd favorite, with its perfect blend of tenderness and smoky richness, while the burnt ends added that extra layer of indulgence. The sandwiches, each unique in flavor and texture, showcased the diverse culinary styles we’re so proud of at Island Pig and Fish. Watching Randy power through these dishes was a sight to behold—each bite a testament to the quality and passion we put into our food.
The Moment of Victory
With just minutes left on the clock, Randy made history as the first person to conquer our "Jerry Garcia" Menu Challenge. It was a thrilling moment for everyone in the restaurant—cheers erupted as Randy completed the final bite, securing his place on our "Jerry Garcia" Challenge Wall of Fame. Along with a free meal and a special Island Pig and Fish hat, Randy walked away with the ultimate bragging rights.
We want to extend a heartfelt thank you to Randy, Katina, and all the amazing fans who came out to support this event. It was an unforgettable evening, filled with great food, great company, and a shared love for the spirit of Jerry Garcia. Whether you’re a die-hard fan of the Grateful Dead or just someone who appreciates a hearty meal, we invite you to come down to Island Pig and Fish and take on the "Jerry Garcia" Menu Challenge yourself.
Who knows? You might just find yourself joining Randy on our Wall of Fame. Until then, keep rocking, keep eating, and we’ll see you at the table.
Rock on, Treasure Coast!
